About

Some Assembly Required is not an average work for orchestra. It is actually two connected works for orchestra, or one work for double orchestra. Each instrument is given two parts, which allows the conductor or individual performer to pick a configuration of the work that best fits the program. For example, if a foreboding, pulsing beginning in minor is needed, the "B" parts in the strings may be used. If a freer, lush string section in major should start the work, the "A" parts would work better. The work is designed to fit together with any of the 393,239,448 different combinations of the constituent parts.
