Program Note
Palilalia is defined as a speech defect marked by abnormal repetition of syllables, words, or phrases, and this definition is clearly present in the work's overall structure. Palilalia is built on a repeated four-measure phrase that is largely unaltered throughout the piece, allowing the orchestration to be the main focus and driving force. This short work for orchestra is a greatly expanded and orchestrated version of a movement of my woodwind quintet, Prelection, with the same name.
