0. Introduction and Assumptions

Do Things.

001 Assumptions

I teach under the following assumptions:

  • Students are equal partners in their own education.
  • Students take care of their non-academic life (physical health, mental health, finances, and so on) so that we may focus on their academic life.
  • Students take the notes they need during classes to refer to later.

1. General Academic Policies

101 Updates to Academic Policy

Updates to the Academic Policy will take effect immediately. Any changes that occur during the course of a semester will be presented to students in writing.

102 Assignment Formats

No photographs (JPG, GIF, PNG, or other image files) of assignments will be accepted.

Digital files in the following formats cannot be read: Pages.

2. Attendance and Meeting Times

201 Attendance Policies

A student enrolled in a class by this instructor has an obligation to the class for the duration of the published meeting time. It is assumed that the student will attend all regularly-scheduled meeting times.

In some courses, attendance impacts the final grade directly (e.g., the attendance grade is a component of the final grade). In other courses, attendance impacts the final grade by reducing the final grade based on the number of absences. Check with the syllabus for the class for detailed information.

Absences caused by illnesses (when verifiable formal medical documentation (doctor's notes) is submitted in a timely fashion), religious holidays, or official university or government obligations will not reduce the student's final grade IF documentation is provided within a week.

Veterans and student servicemembers with special circumstances or who are activated are encouraged to notify the instructor as soon as possible and are encouraged to provide Activation Orders.

Arriving more than 15 minutes late to class will be equivalent to an absence.

Missing more than 49% of a class period will be equivalent to an absence.

On days where campus is closed due to inclement weather, all traditional, in-person, and seated classes will follow the campus closure instructions. For online students, lessons and classes may be cancelled at the discretion of the instructor or students.

202 Scheduling Individual Meetings

Individual meetings may be scheduled at https://kv.fyi/meet.

203 Scheduled Meetings

I will wait 10 minutes past any scheduled meeting time before moving on to other tasks. Meetings begun after that time may be continued at the discretion of the instructor.

4. Other Policies

401 Incompletes

Incompletes will be negotiated IF the following conditions are true:

  1. The student's grade in the course is not a failing grade.
  2. The incomplete is requested prior to the 12th week of classes.
  3. The student's request for an incomplete is backed up by submitted documentation.
