Shindig
was written in the beginning months of 2021, as the coronavirus pandemic neared
its anniversary and the promise of a vaccine was just on the horizon. It's a
forward-looking piece, in search of a time where we can safely gather in
celebration. The piece begins like a party would--guests trickle in (we don't
hear all eight parts until a third of the piece is over), the musical lines are
written as dialogue with plenty of back-and-forth, and there are often multiple
conversations happening at the same time. Everyone's invited. Tell your
friends.
